Q: What is your hometown, and what is one thing people get wrong about it?A: I’m from Edenvale, Gauteng. Some people joke or assume Edenvale is just a “boring suburb near the airport with nothing special to see or do.” In reality, Edenvale isn’t just a random suburb — many locals and visitors enjoy its distinct character, community markets, quirky shops, and charming spots like the Dutch bakery with a windmill landmark on Van Riebeeck Avenue. That windmill has become an unexpected local icon and surprises people who thought Edenvale was “just another residential area.”
Q: What is your “hidden talent” that would surprise everyone?
A: My hidden talent is that I can cook well, especially home-cooked meals. From proper Sunday lunches to mouth-watering desserts, I’ve learned how to take random ingredients from the fridge and turn them into something that works. I call it my ‘7de Laan Hilda-style’ cooking — creative, unexpected, but comforting. On top of that, I’m also a bit of a handyperson. I enjoy fixing things around the house… although sometimes I break them first by following YouTube tutorials incorrectly. But I always learn, and in the end, something usually gets fixed — or at least improved.

Q: If your life had a theme song, what would it be and why?
A: It would be “Wondering Why” by The Red Clay Strays because it captures raw emotion, reflection, and honesty. It reminds me that life isn’t always perfect, but there’s beauty in being real, learning as you go, and staying true to yourself. Or “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan, because it speaks to growth, change, and finding meaning in where you come from. It connects emotions and memories in a way that reminds me to stay grounded, appreciate the journey, and keep moving forward — even through seasons that feel uncomfortable or uncertain.
Q: What is your go-to confidence boost before a big moment ?A: Before a big moment, I put on a soulful song — usually Noah Kahan or The Red Clay Strays — and treat it like a movie-montage moment. Then I take a deep breath and remind myself that I’ve survived worse… like following a YouTube tutorial and still having extra screws left over. If all else fails, I make sure I’ve eaten, because I’m far more confident with a full stomach.
Q: What is one thing you are currently obsessed with?
A: Right now, I’m obsessed with personal growth and challenging myself to become the best version of me. Every step of this Mr South Africa journey pushes me to grow — whether it’s stepping out of my comfort zone, learning new skills, or connecting with people in meaningful ways. I’m learning to embrace challenges, turn mistakes into lessons, and lead by example. That has become my focus: becoming someone who can inspire others while continuing to improve myself.
Q: What is your signature style item you cannot live without?
A: My signature style is a combination of Phantom Paco Rabanne EDT and a necklace with a cross. The fragrance gives me confidence and energy, while the cross carries a lot of emotional significance.
Q: What is the most “South African” thing about you?
A: My ability to turn any situation into a proper debate or an unnecessary 10-minute conversation that could’ve been said in one minute — from which bakkie is best to the fastest route to drive — while dropping “nou” and “mos” at least ten times. It’s that mix of confidence, humour, and Mzansi charm you can’t teach. And of course, it’s a braai, not a BBQ, and we always use wood, never charcoal.
Q: If you could switch lives with any South African for a day, who would it be and why?A: Trevor Noah. Not just to see the world through his eyes, but to figure out how he makes people laugh while saying things I shouldn’t and gets away with it. Experiencing his wit, creativity, and ability to connect with anyone would be an epic masterclass in humour and resilience.
Q: What is a moment in your life that shaped you into who you are today?
A: It’s hard to pinpoint just one moment — it’s really a combination of many experiences: growing up, the people I’ve met and lost, the journeys and trips I’ve taken. Each day has been a lesson, and I believe every new opportunity shapes who we are. Every place we visit, every person we meet opens our minds and inspires us to see and do more. Those experiences have taught me resilience, perspective, and the importance of embracing life fully — lessons I carry into everything I do, including this Mr South Africa journey.
Q: As Mr South Africa, what is the first cause or project you want to champion—and what impact do you want to make?
A: As Mr South Africa, the first cause I would champion is the empowerment and personal growth of the next generation, while remaining true to the beliefs and values that have guided me on this journey. Every person deserves the tools, guidance, and confidence to discover their potential and chase their dreams. I want to create opportunities that inspire resilience, self-belief, and practical skills — helping young people navigate life’s challenges and see setbacks as opportunities to gain experience. The impact I hope to make is giving South Africans the courage to step up, embrace who they are, and realize they have the power to have an influence in their own lives and in their communities.
These are not just “fun facts”, but It’s a glimpse into someone who’s equal parts humour and heart, style and substance, confidence and growth — From a hometown windmill, conversations that could have been an email, and a purpose that goes deeper than the spotlight. If this is the mindset walking into Mr South Africa… it’s going to be a powerful reign.
